Data Transfer - Paradox/Oracle Consolidator

Project Description

The QRMS Consolidator is intended to allow QRMS data from several remote sites running QRMS (stand alone or LAN version) to be consolidated into a single master database at a central location. The Consolidated Database would then be used for queries, reports, classification lookups and other information functions. The Consolidated Database would not be a live dataset; it would be "read only" with no changes (other than updates from the contributing sites) allowed.

There are several discrete components involved in this process (the numbers refer to the diagram following and to the detailed descriptions following):

  1. A process running at each remote QRMS site that assembles update transactions for all changes made to relevant QRMS tables and fields in the remote site's local database.
  2. A means of transferring the update transactions to the central site (via network connection, FTP, email, diskette, etc.).
  3. A process running at the central site that applies the update transactions received from the remote sites to the Consolidated Database.
  4. A process running at the central site that updates the Consolidated Database with Classification and other data that is maintained at the central site (eg: from a QRMS Master system).
  5. A database and server system at the central site that is able to handle the expected table sizes, update volume and query volume; that can accept and process the update transactions; and that has the software tools required to perform rapid full-text searches on the Consolidated Database.
  6. User-friendly front end software to allow users to search the Consolidated Database easily, quickly and securely.
