For either the non-LAN or LAN system, you can attach DATA CONTROL and TRANSFER Modules.
These modules allow you to transfer data (for merging and reporting purposes as well as centralized control of Classifications) between two separate QUEST systems.
Data Transfer - Paradox/Oracle File Consolidator
For example, you have your Headquarters office. It maintains files for two departments; accounting and research. You also maintain the Classification system (Primary and Secondary Numbers) at the headquarters office. The system is on a local area network and has twenty people that access/lookup file information.
You have two regional offices.
Regional Office 1 is a LAN based system with ten users doing file access/lookup. It maintains files for three departments; administration, operations and sales.
Regional Office 2 is a single user system that maintains files for two departments, administration and operations.
There is no LAN connection between your headquarters office and the regional offices (or there may be a wide area network, but physical locations and communications limitations do not make it feasible to have all the data at one central server).
You can attach a Data Control module to the Headquarters system. This allows you to import file information from the regional offices (for centralized reporting) and export the Classification System.
You attach a Data Transfer module to each of the region systems. This allows you to export the file information and import the Classifications.
